Former Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Billy King is back. Billy King will be the new General Manager of the New Jersey Nets. King will be replacing Rod Thorn who’s contract expires this Friday.
Billy King has been out of the NBA since the 2007-2008 season with the 76ers. Billy King and Danny Ferry were the top two candidates for the New Jersey Nets GM job.
Mikhall Prokhorov and new Head Coach Avery Johnson were impressed with Billy King and his experience as a GM and President of player operations, with 76ers.
Billy King worked for the 76ers for 10 years. Billy King was initially the President of Player Operations. At one time Billy King was the 76ers GM and President of Player Operations at the same time.
However, Billy King was eventually relieved of President of Player Operation. The 76ers allowed Billy King to be their GM for the last 3 years,while he was with the team.
The New Jersey Nets are headed in a different direction now. The Nets were 12 and 70 last year. Head Coach Avery Johnson is looking to bring some life back into New Jersey.
The New Jersey Nets drafted power forward Derrick Favors out of Georgia Tech, with the number 3 pick in this years NBA draft. The Nets have 14 million dollars left to spend on an free agent.
Billy King has a lot of work to do considering all of the top free agents have already signed with their perspective teams.
Billy King will try to make some noise now that he is back in the same division with the organization that gave him his first job in the league.
